bioSOILUTIONS – Enabling underused bio-waste feedstocks into safe and effective market-ready soil improvers

Global soil degradation, an urgent crisis, plagues 60-70 % of EU soils due to unsustainable management. In this context, the EU-funded bioSOILUTIONS project aims to remedy this critical issue by harnessing the power of innovation and collaboration.

Building upon the foundation laid by previous EU-funded projects, bioSOILUTIONS has rallied key consortium partners, spearheaded by notable names like WaysTUP! and VALUEWASTE. The project’s overall aim is to optimise four distinct bio-waste valorisation routes (blood hydrolysate, frass, N-struvite and K-struvite) to create advanced bio-waste soil improvers. These improvers are designed to not only enhance nutrient recovery from bio-waste, encompassing vital elements such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K), but also to curb the practices of landfilling and incineration.
